Flexible seating will allow my students to have some degree of choice and control over their environment. It allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Many students, especially those on the Autism Spectrum have a difficult time sitting in a chair all day. Having various seating options stimulate a student's sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful and important for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Activities such as putty, playdough, puzzles and kinetic sand will help my students have an outlet for their sensory needs.
