My students have limited opportunities to help out on campus and be part of the general population due to their unique needs. I am hoping to obtain a paper shredder so that we have a meaningful reason for visiting different classrooms and staff offices each week. I feel that being able to offer a service, rather than asking for help, is a great way to get my students more involved on our campus. Having a paper shredder will allow us to create a schedule and map of locations to pick up items. This will help my students become better acquainted with the high school campus, follow a schedule and meet staff and students outside of our classroom. In addition to offering an opportunity to interact with others, having a paper shredder will allow my students to learn to use a shredder and to discard of the waste. This is an important skill that could help them gain employment in the near future.
