These materials will allow students to create an artful moving bot while experiencing the important aspects of STEAM learning. Each component of STEAM can be broken down to provide a specific example. The Science component of this project helps students understand electricity and how the flow of electricity is an electrical current. The Technology aspect teaches students about circuits and how electricity currents flow through a closed path. Engineering the bot involves designing and often including many iterations of the design. The Artistic lines resulting from the bot's movements promotes discussion about examples of lines used in art. The Math component is a perfect way to discuss voltage and how to match the motor and power source voltage. This STEAM based project is a perfect way to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking; it will help to build the foundation that is needed to persevere in future projects/careers. The most successful learning experiences are often when students don't realize they are learning. Giving my students this opportunity to have fun learning yet promoting the 4C's (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication) is the best experience. Thank you for providing this opportunity!
