Thank you for considering a donation for Our Housing and Interiors Project Based Learning. The class has 26 students enrolled, but through this collaborative learning project other students and classes will also be involved. A significant impact will also be the little children that will be given the projects to develop their social play and language skills. For years I have had students use their design skills to create housing and interior designs in shoe boxes. There was so much wonderful creativity and work put into these projects that I felt a guilty not knowing what to do with the completed projects that students worked so hard on. During a discussion with one of the Preschool Teachers, during a field trip observation in her classroom, we discovered a perfect use for students' projects. The teacher explained how her little people who love to have the houses for center play, but the designs were not durable enough for the play of daycare and preschool children. Last year I was able to purchase four houses through Perkins funding (one time use). The students worked in teams to plan, design, and implement their ideas. Learning to work as a team was amazing to observe and students learned so much about themselves. During the project we discovered that the houses were not to the correct scale and caused design problems for printing the 3-D furniture. We have solicited collaboration from other CTE instructors and have decided to design AND BUILD our own houses. The experience will benefit the high school students learning to apply scale by designing the house plans in Chief Architect and then cutting out the baltic wood using the CNC. The high school students will select area daycares/preschools to donate and deliver the houses to; brings back early learning memories!
