Funded Apr 7, 2021Thank you for donating to my project. The fifth graders at Sinclair were able to read an important book called Front Desk and other picture books. Many students recognized themselves or their friends while reading.
The novel, which is the first in a series, is loosely based on the author's experience as an immigrant growing up in America, and she doesn't shy away from tough, real-world topics such as immigration, poverty, racism, fraud, and bullying. Although there are many heartbreaking stories in the book, there are plenty of positive messages for kids about fighting for what's right, treating people with kindness and respect, and never judging someone by the color of their skin.
I no longer teach at Sinclair, but I left all the books so that the next 5th teacher can read them to their students. Thank you for your support!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chan
