  • Finance Fun

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

The topic of money and how to spend our money wisely is a real world decision-making skill that needs to be taught at an early age. I will be introducing lessons that provides students with an opportunity to learn more about financial literacy. The books and games in the kit will make teaching fun for everyone. I have very limited funds and materials to teach math, so I have to rely of donations from parents. I am very lucky to have a community that is so supportive. I am so grateful for getting this project funded. Thank you to my Travis Family.”

  • Inspire Compassion in the Classroom

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

Thank you for donating to my project. The fifth graders at Sinclair were able to read an important book called Front Desk and other picture books. Many students recognized themselves or their friends while reading.

The novel, which is the first in a series, is loosely based on the author's experience as an immigrant growing up in America, and she doesn't shy away from tough, real-world topics such as immigration, poverty, racism, fraud, and bullying. Although there are many heartbreaking stories in the book, there are plenty of positive messages for kids about fighting for what's right, treating people with kindness and respect, and never judging someone by the color of their skin.

I no longer teach at Sinclair, but I left all the books so that the next 5th teacher can read them to their students. Thank you for your support!”

  • Taste of Asia

    Funded Feb 11, 2021

May is Asian Heritage Month. May is also a time where school is close to an end. Students this time of year are ready for summer. I was able to give a memorable experience before these 5th graders moved on to middle school.

They were able to experience a taste of Asian culture and foods. The class favorite was the lychee flavor gummy candy from Japan. Some students were afraid to try the roasted seaweed, but most liked the rice balls. The student also enjoyed reading Front Desk, and this book opened their eyes about racism in America. Thank you so much for your donation.”

  • Girls on the Move

    Funded Dec 17, 2020

My 5th graders are so thankful and excited with our new fitness equipment! It has been a difficult year for my students and me. Every fifth grader was able to have their own yoga mat, so that we did not have to worry about sharing materials. Our fitness routine of running and yoga was a needed stress release at the end of the day. We were also able to order an outdoor wireless speaker so we could play music while we run and flow. Students are now looking forward to coming to school everyday. Thank You!”

  • Cleaner Air

    Funded Oct 5, 2020

Thank you for supporting my classroom. I use my air purifier daily and really needed the extra filters. The students and I feel safer when the Dyson is on. The air also smells cleaner and fresher. I am also grateful that I was able to get the apple pencil for my new iPad. The added technology has been crucial for teaching both virtual and face to face. The struggle this year has been very real, but I feel very grateful that I teach at Sinclair. The parents, students, and community have welcomed me. Thank you so much for your donation.”

  • Technology for Remote Learning

    Funded Oct 3, 2020

I am so grateful that I get to have a job that I love. This year has been a very challenging year, but the Sinclair parents have supported me. The 5th graders this year have been amazing. In return, I have tried to make my lessons engaging and encourage a love for science. Before I wrote this grant, I was using my phone to record lessons. Thank you for giving me the technology I needed. The iPad has been the most useful device that I teach with. I am able to easily carry the iPad everywhere I go to film and take pictures of investigations.”

  • Clean Air

    Funded Sep 28, 2020

Thank you for supporting my project. This has been a difficult year, but I am grateful that I have the support of the Sinclair community. The air purifier has been the first thing I turn on when I open my door. The air feels and smells cleaner with the Dyson on. The students have been fascinated with the technology. This purifier gives updates on the level of pollutants in the air. When the pollutants are high, the Dyson automatically turns on high and gives a danger warning. Both the students and I are so thankful that we can have the air cleaned daily.”

I have partnered with EcoRise and will be teaching students about sustainability. This year my students will conduct eco-audits examining air quality at school. We will learn the advantages and disadvantages of using commercial disinfectants to clean and eliminate odors. Students will research alternatives to toxic chemicals in disinfectants. In teams, students will be given the task to create a cleaner that is non-toxic and Earth-friendly. As part of this project, I am asking for an air purifier. We will examine how the purifier works without the use of chemicals.
