  • Master Number Manipulators

    Funded Sep 3, 2023

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support through DonorsChoose.org. Your commitment to education and the well-being of students has made a significant impact on our learning community.

I am a teacher at Kenton Elementary School, and I had the privilege of receiving support for our project, "Master Number Manipulators." Thanks to your donation, we were able to receive hands on manipulatives that will allow students to develop a deeper understanding of both multiplication and fractions. Your contribution went beyond the monetary value; it became a catalyst for positive change in our students' viewpoint towards mathematics.

Your commitment to making a difference in education is commendable, and I want to assure you that your generosity has not gone unnoticed. The gratitude we feel is shared by the students, their families, and the entire school community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nudera

  • Social Justice Literacy: Empowering Students to Use Their Voice

    Funded Jan 5, 2020

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project. I hope that this gives many students the opportunity to become socially aware critical thinkers. Now, more than ever, students need the chance to make waves in the world and become leading problem solvers. Literature is a great way for students to connect with their own humanity. Thank you again for helping to make this possible for a few more of our most needy and deserving students! Make sure to be on the look out for pictures of my students with their brand new books!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nudera

These books will work to enhance the informational rich natural disaster unit that I strive to create for my students. My classroom library is full of rich informational texts that compliment this unit, but seem one dimensional in the impact that natural disasters have on the people that go through them. Typically this unit is one where students learn the science behind various natural disasters and then the unit is over. My goal is for students to understand that race and social inequities are not just a topic to be covered during Black History month, but instead, need to be discussed all of the time. With these new books, my students will be able given the opportunity to learn about social injustice from literature. This text is so much more than learning about theme, comparing/contrasting, and problem and solution. Zane and the Hurricane will allow students to ask the tough questions. This text will allow them to see the world for the harsh realities that occur in it. It is my mission as a teacher to provide my students opportunities to be uncomfortable and learn about the real world. I want students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Getting this book into the hands of my students will begin a discussion that I hope begins to make a big difference in their lives.
