As we move into another year of distance learning, I want to provide my 29 second-grade students with a high-quality virtual learning experience.
The use of whiteboards in second-grade is ongoing in every subject. Students use their whiteboards to show me various ways of thinking. It is accessible, quick, but most importantly, they love to use them! Setting a visual timer in second-grade helps students stay on track, creates focus, and helps break down work into reasonable chunks, especially during a distance learning model.
This year, I am looking forward to revamping my classroom library to make it more inclusive for our diverse community. In a classroom where more than 70% of my students are individuals of color, I want to ensure my students see themselves represented in the books we read. I want to empower them through relatable stories and make our choice in books reflective of our intentions in our classroom community.
