  • Busy Bodies Seeking Flexible Seating Arrangement

    Funded Dec 28, 2019

Flexible seating was a mistake. My students love them too much. They work too hard to sit where they want. They understand responsibility too well after keeping up with the bouncy balls and wiggle seats. They care too much about their classroom and the materials that are just for them.

All jokes aside, thank you. I thought flexible seating was just going to get my kids to learn more, happier. But instead it gave them a deeper understanding of our second home. It is more than just a chair, it's a sign of appreciation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murray

  • Just Books

    Funded Dec 29, 2019

The 3rd grade class is thankful for these wonderful gifts of flexible seating! They are the only classroom in the building with wiggle seats, several bouncy seats, and an inflatable seat. When they received this amazing gift they responded with questions like "Why did they get this for us?", "Who donated these seats to us?", and "Can you tell them we said thank you?" Originally I believed that the flexible seating arrangements would make my students more engaged in their work through the ability to choose. I soon realize that the classroom environment changed, but not the way I thought. The students' classroom ownership has greatly increased. Their relationships with each other, with myself, and with other classroom items shows an attachment. They keep the classroom cleaner, protect their materials better, and appreciate things more. They treat our classroom like home. We are a family, and these are our household items to protect and keep safe. I never anticipated my students would have such a profound connection to the classroom through something as simple as a new chair. Thank you so much for the opportunity to have an amazing classroom through your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murray

This classroom project was brought to life by Kaplan Early Learning Company and one other donor.
With flexible seating, students are empowered to choose their own learning style, they have a variety of seating options, and they are no longer tied to sitting on a chair at a desk while they learn. Blah, blah, blah. My students cannot keep still and instead of denying their movement I want to encourage it through flexible seating. They are constantly moving, constantly running to the pencil sharpener, constantly asking to use the restroom constantly wiggling! These tiny little busy bodies need movement like all children do. Flexible seating will give them the opportunity to get their wiggles out and continue to learn. Maximizing class time, engaging my scholars with highly-effective lessons, and retaining my students' individuality are crucial to a happy classroom and I hope to offer it through this request.
