Hello! Traditional follow spots are large and use incandescent bulbs that can get very hot. These follow spots, in particular, contain LED lights, and therefore, do not emit heat! Traditional follow spots are quite safe to use with proper training, but can lead to minor burns when handled improperly. We were previously able to have our older students handle the spotlights, but now that I am relying on my 7th and 8th graders to light their peers, I would like to be able to give them equipment that is a little friendlier to them! Spotlight Operator is one of the most commonly requested contract jobs in local and regional theatre. I would love to give my younger students the opportunity to learn and hone this invaluable theatrical skill on a lighting instrument that is safer for them to use!
