When students can access computer-based technology, they can expand their minds and create innovative films that enhance the learning that occurs in a project-based classroom while recording the lives of the veterans that served our great nation. I would love to acquire two iPad tablets with keyboards in which students can create and film historical documentaries in collaborative groups of 3-5 students over the course of a semester. These devices will help students organize information that influences how they learn and apply new knowledge as they become self-directed learners. Making historical films offers a learner skills that many students find necessary in the 21st-century global community as they plan, assess, monitor, and reflect on their content and topic. Working in conjunction with teams using iPad tablets, students can transfer their work from Chromebooks (which can not make movies) to the iPad tablet on iMovie in an effort to construct historical documentaries and record the lives of our veterans. Essentially a more interactive learning environment is created that removes the status quo of essay writing in lieu of a more creative form of student expression through the use of state of the art technology. Students will travel to historical sites around our state and film history as they see it unfold on their Chromebooks. The teams will return to create a finished product. iPads are versatile, allowing the students to move with ease from their Chromebooks to finish their project on an iPad.
