Seats for Sixth Graders
Funded Dec 14, 2022For the last few months, small group instruction has been made so much easier because of your generosity! Students no longer have to drag their chairs from table to table and back to their desks. (This took up valuable time, and there were even small quarrels about whose chair was whose when they got mixed-up in the shuffle). Because there are now stools in place at each center, transition times have been cut down. This means small group instruction time has increased! There are 45 students and two teachers that are very grateful for your donations! (Plus the many students in the future who will also benefit).
Thank you so much for choosing to fund my project! I am sincerely grateful for your generosity!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mignault
Scholastic News Magazines
Funded Jul 23, 2021It is very exciting to get the mail at our school! My students and I look forward to the colorful packages from Scholastic filled with the newest edition of their magazine.
We enjoy reading the latest topics and variety of information covered each week. Articles are current, about topics that interest our students, and at an academic level that has something for everyone. When students get their hands on the newest magazine (usually Fridays), they devour it in a variety of ways such as in literature circle groups, partners, independently, and/or whole group "popcorn" reading.
Awhile back students had a great debate over the article "Should Kids have Cell Phones?" While we were discussing the article and the pros and cons, the assistant principal, who is also my evaluator walked into the classroom for an unannounced observation. He observed our debate and my lesson on persuasive writing and was pleased with how engaged each and every student was. I scored really well on my observation!
I am very appreciative of your generosity. The project you funded adds an element of excitement to our curriculum. Thank you so much!”

Ms. Mignault
Tuck Everlasting Novel Study
Funded Jul 23, 2021First of all, thank you so much. All of the sixth grade teachers and students at our school were able to benefit from this project because of your extreme generosity. These donated novels will be used again and again in the future!
We recently finished our novel unit for Tuck Everlasting. The kids truly enjoyed this novel! I was able to teach students about plot elements (including differences between internal and external conflicts), character traits, figurative language, comprehension strategies (including summary), and theme. Throughout the book, we kept a tally of how many students would want to be immortal like the Tucks and how/why this opinion might change as we read. After much discussion, students decided the main theme of this story was "Maturing/Growing Up" which students could connect to and defend with text evidence.
In our classroom, we read and analyzed this novel in literature circle groups, partners, whole group, and independently. Using a novel when teaching reading comprehension gives the time and freedom to explore all different ways of reading. It was especially helpful that the audio CD was donated as well. Students that were absent from the classroom, especially students that needed to quarantine, could listen to the story”

Scholastic News Magazines (Thank You in Advance!)
Funded Aug 11, 2020I want to sincerely thank you for putting physical reading materials in my students hands. I find this especially important during a pandemic when students' education has been on a screen for almost a year. This not only gives their eyes a break, but falls within our safety guidelines because there doesn't have to be any sharing of reading materials. (I mail a months worth of magazines to students' homes and then we work on a magazine a week).
Students are engaged with the world events and stories that relate to them. The examples of student opinions that are on the last page create great debate discussions! I love how students are getting better with main idea and supporting details!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mignault
