Explore the World Though Your Hands
Funded Apr 17, 2024Thank you so much for supporting us with this project. The students have been able to use these resources to help them access the world around them. It is not easy for these students to explore the world because they are nonverbal, have limited mobility and some have visual impairment. Providing them with sensory materials allows them to access more from the environment. The students have used them for free time activities as well as for sensory and behavioral support. This has given them opportunities for choices as well. When the students first saw the materials they were excited to explore them. We were even able to have individualized sensory bins to use when they. have choice time. This students will continue to explore the world around them via sensory exploration and learn to regulate their behavior through sensory exploration.”

Add Color to Our Education!
Funded Apr 10, 2020When I requested assistance with this project I had not idea how important and how needed it would become. I requested the printer and ink as a way to help my special needs student access the curriculum and communicate more efficiently. Having colored visuals would make a huge difference for them. At the time I didn't know how much of a necessity it would become. As you know the pandemic hit Massachusetts in the spring and schools were closed for the rest of the school year. It was very challenging to provide students with learning opportunities. The internet was the main source of education, however many of my students did not have access to the internet. In order to provide work to students, we had to print out handouts. This was not an effective way to teach my special needs students. They are mainly hands on learners. It was important to provide more hands on activities. I spent the summer wondering how I could help the students learn in a way that worked for them. When the printer arrived it was obvious what I had to do. My colleague and I are sharing the case load right now. She is working with the students in school and I am working with the students who are at home working remotely. We came up with a great way to reach each student. We have printed out activities and created independent task boxes and work binders. We were able to provide the students appropriate work activities in both settings. The students are now accessing the curriculum in a way that allows them to learn the way they learn best. Additionally, we have been able to provide the students with a visual schedule and communication symbols for students who are learning at home and in school. The students are now working to their potential and they are enjoying the process. Thank you for helping my students feel good about learning even during these uncertain times times.”
