Students use audiobooks and books ‘read to them’ to help increase their motivation during reading. It allows them to practice comprehension strategies in age-appropriate texts that would otherwise be at their frustrations level. Headphones will allow students to explore topics and books that would otherwise be unavailable to them (reading difficulty, access to books, language acquisition, etc). In writing, many students use speech-to-text programs for writing, and this will allow them to hear what they have typed. In math, we create Flipped Videos and tutorials that students listen to in order to help them learn a skill or complete an activity. Headphones allow this to happen independently while the teachers meet with small groups to teach a lesson. Please help our students hear by having access to functioning headphones!
