The items I have carefully handpicked for my list are ones that will allow my students to be engaged with the work we are doing through being able to move their bodies and express their creativity. Instead of students fidgeting in their seats or doodling on their work, the flexible seating & art supplies I have chosen will encourage them to put their energy and creativity into a positive outlet. Studies have shown that students with disabilities are more engaged with content material when they are able to move their bodies while completing work. Flexible seating accomplishes this by encouraging students to engage their core and leg muscles on bottle cap chairs & exercise ball chairs. Their brains are able to work just as hard as their muscles in a way that is non-distracting to themselves and their peers. Having an outlet for creativity is just as imperative to growth, development, and happiness for students with disabilities as it is for their non-disabled peers. Using supplies such as paint & markers to create to their hearts' content will bring great joy to my students.
