These materials are basic materials that are needed in the classroom for day to day activities and projects. In order for my students to do more hands-on learning, they need the supplies to help them get there. As a first year teacher, I am not able to supply them with all of these. They are simple items such as scissors and rulers. Rulers and scissors are used almost daily for my students to create projects and do crafts that are linked into our social studies and reading curriculum. The students understand the content best if they have it in their hands, and can use the supplies to be creative. The clipboards and lap boards are absolutely loved in the classroom. I just wished I had them to let my students use them. Lap boards are small white boards that the students use to collaborate in teams. They show me their thinking without having to use their voice (especially great for my non -verbal students) to show me what they know. The clip boards are extremely helpful for tasks that require them to move around the room. If students would work better away from their desk (such as on the floor), they have a hard surface to continue doing their work.
