  • Let's Talk!

    Funded Aug 3, 2021

After a difficult year of remote and hybrid learning last year, I can't tell you how grateful I am for your generosity. Your donations have gone a LONG way and I am so excited. to share the impact with you.

After a wild, unpredictable year last year, my goal was to create a learning environment that was calming and safe for students to return to. Thank you for allowing me to get the materials I needed to create the environment I had in mind. I've even had students notice the new space and talk about how much they've loved spending time here!

Even more importantly, your donations provided a variety of materials for my students. These materials have enriched therapy sessions in such a wonderful way. I'm especially grateful for the addition of the iPad this year. I work with many students with multiple disabilities and having an iPad has been a game changer! Having the iPad allows students with visual impairments better access materials. It allows some of my nonverbal students a chance to practice using different communication applications. It also allows students working on a variety of goals to have apps and programs that best match their learning style.

So thank you, thank you, thank you- for everything. I am the most grateful for the way you have invested in these brilliant, world changing kids.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Joy

I am so excited about my learners being able to access these materials! In speech therapy sessions, I see kids individually and in small groups, each child working on diverse goals to best meet their needs. During this time, we engage with a variety of books and activities to promote language growth. Books and games are an incredible way to allow children to develop a variety of language skills, including answering questions, formulating sentences, following directions, and engaging socially with their peers. It is my desire that all my books be inclusive in order for my students to see themselves reflected in the pages. I've included a variety of activities that are accessible to my students with multiple disabilities, many of whom communicate through augmentative, alternative means. I've included switch-activated toys for these students to target learning cause-and-effect, which is the basis of language learning. One of my most desired requests here is an iPad, as having this will allow my students with multiple disabilities to access a variety of appropriate activities and language applications. Lastly, I've included materials to create a comfortable, welcoming environment for my students in my classroom. It's my goal to create a minimalist and warm environment for each student to feel peace and a readiness to learn.
