I have students at varying confidence and reading levels. I am working on setting up stations that focus on a specific reading skill needed to prepare for middle school. These Lakeshore Learning projects are extremely graphic and easy to use, which catches the attention of my fifth graders while allowing them to practice reading skills with ease. The simplicity of the match and sort also help my ELL students feel less stress around practicing their reading skills. Students will use these match and sort materials in rotating reading stations independently to practice the skills they need using materials that are engaging and of high interest, allowing students to feel motivated to work hard on their reading in a hands-on way! Hands-on learning is a universal practice that helps all students, but especially engages my reluctant readers. They are able to practice their reading skills without feeling like they are working. This will help me spend focused, uninterrupted time with my students that are struggling with confidence and reading levels and help them experience a love for learning they deserve.
