Teaching On Line With High Quality Literacy Tools and Books
Funded Sep 11, 2020My K - 3 class is completely online due to the present pandemic. As teachers we are constantly working to plan the best way to meet the needs of our students. I am so very appreciative of the generous donations from my donors for this literacy project so that my young learners can continue their learning and love for reading.
The Scholastic News articles are in paper and online. I am able to send the paper edition home to my students every two weeks at our school's "packet distribution". My students are so excited to be able to hold the current news articles and excited to discuss their new learning when we meet at our daily Zoom meetings. Having access to the digital component really helps me give more comprehensive instruction.
The white board markers and erasers are so helpful when doing math and ELA lessons online. I can visually see what the children are learning in real time. Of course the students were excited to have new tools to write with .
The Scholastic collection of kindergarten books gives me such a range of good literature to read to my students. My young learners look forward to each new story that is read aloud.
Thank you again for your generous donation of reading materials for my students.”

Building a Nonfiction Rich Classroom Library
Funded Apr 25, 2014I am very appreciative of the generous donation of funds to increase my classroom's non fiction library.
This project will enable me to teach my students about science and the world around them. The reading materials purchased is for all readers. In my classroom, we have students who barely read at the fist grade level on up to those who are reading at the seventh grade level.
These new books will impact the love for reading for all students, as well as science knowledge for the rest of their lives.
I smile as I watch all of my students eagerly selecting new material to read.”

Mathematics for the Math Savvey Student
Funded Nov 13, 2012Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donations for my fourth grade classroom. The calculators I was able to purchase have been put to good use, as my students continue to work on their mathematical skills.
I have a new classroom and we were without calculators. At the beginning of the year, my students were given the task of finding the mode, median and mean of with an assortment of numbers and finding it to be a very difficult task. I soon realized they understood the concepts, but were failing since it was too much computation for a young child. Now, they sometimes use the calculators to check their work after they have made their computations.
I have explained to them the generosity of others, and for that we are all thankful.”

Funded Feb 13, 2012This letter of appreciation is small compared your great generosity.
My students are now daily working with innovative mathematical materials that spark their minds as they further their mathematical knowledge. I watch their understanding grow and know that these materials are helping to foster a lifelong love of learning.
Each of my students are unique in their understandings of math. These materials are helping them to work individually at times and at other times to work in small groups.
I will be able to use these materials for years to come. I am grateful that so many children will gain from your incredible generosity.
My students and their parents know that the donors came from outside of our state. It is heartwarming to know that people care about education for our children.”

Creating a Love for Reading
Funded Jan 18, 2011I would like to thank you for the generous donation you made so that I was able to fund the DonorChoose class project of non fiction books for my classroom.
When the shipment arrived last month, I was very excited to see the quality of books and selections ordered. They are a wide variety of topics and definitely high interest. The reading levels span more than three years, which is perfect for my class. The photos are of vibrant color and the font is plenty big, so that even my reluctant readers are interested.
The books have become a popular reading center choice for my students. I am seeing my students more engaged in their reading. They are also discussing/sharing their new information with their friends as well as myself. Students are able to take an Accelerated Reader test on many of the books which make them happy and provides an additional tracking system for myself.
My students are increasing their background knowledge as they learn more about the world they live in. I know this collection will be popular in my classroom for many years to come.
Your kind gift is greatly appreciated by myself and my students!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rants
