  • Exploring the World Through Non-Fiction

    Funded Dec 31, 2024

Thanks to your support, our students now have access to a diverse collection of non-fiction books that will inspire curiosity and foster a love of learning.

The new books have already had a profound impact on our classroom. Whether they are exploring fascinating facts about the natural world, learning about history, or diving into the lives of inspiring people, these books are opening doors to new knowledge that was once out of reach. The students are already engaged, asking thoughtful questions, and eager to read more.

Your gift is helping to create a richer, more engaging learning environment, where students can connect to real-world topics and build critical thinking skills. This has not only expanded their horizons but has also sparked meaningful discussions and a sense of pride in their learning.

Thank you for believing in the power of education and for investing in the future of these young learners. Your kindness is making a lasting difference, and we are so grateful for your support.”

  • Let's Get Organized.

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

I hope this message finds you well. On behalf of my students and myself, I want to sincerely thank you for your generous donation to our classroom through DonorsChoose. Thanks to your support, we now have the essential organizational materials we needed, including bookshelves, laptop cord organizers, and other resources to help keep our classroom running smoothly.

The new bookshelves have transformed our classroom, providing a dedicated space for our growing collection of books. Students now have easy access to reading materials, which has helped foster a love of reading and a greater sense of ownership over their learning. The laptop cord organizers have been a game-changer—no longer are we wasting time untangling cords. Everything is neat, organized, and ready to go, allowing us to spend more time focusing on lessons rather than logistics. Additionally, the other organizational materials you funded are already making a big difference in creating a more structured and efficient environment.

Your contribution has not only provided us with important tools but has also helped create a more organized and positive space for learning. My students are more engaged and confident in their work, and they are developing stronger habits of responsibility and organization.

Thank you for believing in our classroom and investing in our success. Your generosity is making a lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.”

  • What's Going On?

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

I hope this message finds you well. On behalf of my students, I want to take a moment to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous donation to the "Time for Kids" project on DonorsChoose. Your contribution has made a meaningful difference in the lives of our young learners, and I am excited to share the impact your support has had.

Thanks to your kindness, we were able to provide students with access to Time for Kids magazines, which have enriched their learning experience in remarkable ways. This resource has not only enhanced their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills but also broadened their understanding of the world around them. Whether exploring current events, learning about history, or engaging in thought-provoking discussions, these materials have helped bring the classroom to life.

The students are more engaged in their learning, excited to read about diverse topics, and eager to share what they've learned with their peers. It has sparked curiosity and fostered a deeper sense of global awareness, all while improving their literacy skills. Some of the students who once struggled with reading now feel more confident, and even those who are not naturally drawn to reading have found themselves captivated by the stories, facts, and vibrant images in each issue.

This project would not have been possible without you, and your donation has truly had a lasting impact. The excitement in my students' eyes when they receive their new Time for Kids magazines is a testament to the power of your support. You have not only given them the tools to succeed academically but also inspired them to become lifelong learners who care about the world around them.

Once again, thank you for making a real difference in the lives of our students. Your generosity has helped create a positive, engaging, and enriching learning environment that they will carry with them for years to come.”

  • Snacks and Recess Equipment

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Thank you so much for providing our classroom with healthy snacks and new recess equipment. Our school does not have a playground area for fourth grade so we play on the cement out front. Having new balls to play with has been great!!

We have enjoyed the healthy snacks when we have sometimes forgotten ours at home or just as a whole class treat.

We really appreciate the support. We love playing boxball and catch out at recess. It is so fun and we have new reasons to run around more and get exercise.”

  • Read along and Read Aloud

    Funded Sep 18, 2023

Thank you so much for helping put books into the hands of our students. We were thrilled to receive copies of the Wild Robot and Ruby Holler! Class read aloud times are our favorite parts of the day. We really feel a strong sense of community when we all come together and share the same story.

This is also a time in the day where we can think deeply about text that is read to us by our teacher. We do not have to struggle with reading and decoding all the words since it is a read aloud. This leaves our brains able to think more deeply and share our thinking during lively class discussions! It really is amazing to see how much thinking we can share around these engaging texts. Thanks so much for supporting us!”

    Funded Aug 18, 2021

Thank you so much!!! We love reading our Time for Kids each week. It is so great to see all the connections my students are making to what is going on in the world. They love the photographs and the all text features that are used to help them understand the text. So far we have been enjoying them a great deal. In our next reading module our focus will be on Non-fiction text. We will be able to use articles from time for Kids to launch our mini-lessons and practice our reading skills and strategies. • Social Issues Reading Groups

    Funded Jul 18, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation of books to our classroom. The students and teachers have greatly enjoyed exploring these new texts.

Many of our students here at The Murkland School come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. These students in particular have enjoyed seeing themselves represented in the new books.

Students love to find a comfy spot in the classroom and partner read. Since we have multiple copies of these texts students are able to read the same book as a friend and have a discussion about it.

We have been able to use these books to explore character's traits, motivations, and the obstacles they face.

Again thank you so much for contributing to our classroom literacy success!!!”

  • Social Issues Reading Unit

    Funded Jan 8, 2020

My students LOVE our new books. They want to read them everyday. We have been able to make so many connections with the books.

We especially loved reading The Good Egg, The Bad Seed, and The Cool Bean. The lessons in each story hit home and helped us talk about the type of people we want to be. We shared what we learned from the problems characters faced and how they solved them.

Other books have helped us to talk about different families and the things they have in common. They may look different but families love each other. We are continuing to read and learn from the books bought with your generous support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Watts

Our class is working on a literature unit which focuses on social issues. We are learning about empathy, bullying, feelings, motivations, and struggles through our characters. We are making connections to our own lives and thinking about how we can make the world a better place. We need more books with characters that think about their feelings and actions. We need some characters that are everyday heroes. These characters are the role models we have been looking for. Reading these books will help us to have rich conversations about social issues. Students need practice thinking about tough things like peer pressure. Especially before they head off to middle school in the fall.
