A Comfy, Cozy, and Sensory Rich Classroom

When we first received the materials, students went crazy for the fidget toys. They wanted to know where they came from and immediately began requesting a fidget during classes and exams. A few students recognized the wobble seats as something that has worked for them in the past, and showed others how to use them.

Recently a few students have taken charge of the watering of the plants. One announced "plants are interesting actually!" and have taken turns making sure they stay watered. Using the watering can is a real privilege apparently!

Everyone was especially happy about the chair cushions and each student has a preference for how they like to use them. They couldn't believe that they were getting cushions for making the chairs more comfortable and helped install them by tying them to the chairs. One student makes sure they get the color that they like best. Others flip the cushions up to support their backs rather than the seats. On the day before winter break, students set up a cozy movie-watching area with the blankets and cushions. It has been so nice to be able to offer a blanket or a plushie to a student when they say they feel cold or anxious.”
