Books at home over the summer will 'combat' summer regression. Many of our families don't have books, at home and rely on our library which is closed June-August. We want to get books on our students' hands during the summer months. Research cites: (1) on average, students’ achievement scores declined over summer vacation by one month’s worth of school-year learning, (2) declines were sharper for math than for reading, and (3) the extent of loss was larger at higher grade levels. Books on the United Way Grow Mobile and books that can be sent home will be a great start to stall the effects of summer regression. Kids need books in their hands, at home!
