As you walk into my classroom you will see the Pet Vet Center and the vet outfit to the right of my room. As our first year as a STEAM Academy, I know this center will help me give my students knowledge of career options. Encouraging them to develop and work towards a goal in their future. Which might be becoming a Veterinary. Using the Teachers Pay Teachers resource they will do each component in STEAM. For science they will learn about interdependence. For technology they will use their Chromebook to look at different animal X-Rays. For engineering they will have a scenario where they have to build a wheelchair for a pet that has his two back legs injured and/or build a chair that has to help a pet with Mega Esophagus feed upright. For art they will have to plan and draw out the wheelchair and/or the chair for the pet. For Math they will use measurement. How much does the pet (stuffed animal) weigh using a balance. While doing all of this students will read, write and communicate in this center. Learn new vocabulary. Also role play what a vet does on a daily basis. In my school community that’s all my students see or have in their own homes. A pet. Mostly dogs and cats. It will also teach them the responsibility of caring and having a pet.
