The students will be able to take the book home to read it and show it to their family members. Many of our students are from Mexico and other South American countries, the students can share their experiences with their family members. Below is a lesson plan from Mrs. Weatherby and how she used the Frankenstein book in her class at another school. Purpose: For this essay, you will provide an analysis of at least 3 literary techniques, character choices, and/or major themes (ideas) presented in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Before you begin, you should be able to identify the author’s intended purpose and intended (or first) audience. Remember, the audience may change over time; however, a new audience will tend to view the work of literature through a new lens or perspective based on changing worldviews and/or literary and philosophical movements that are prevalent during different times/dispensations. Therefore, you should also be able to understand some characteristics of the time period that was predominant when this novel was written; for instance, how is this novel representative of the Romantic movement as well as gothic, horror, and science fiction? How does it challenge or push Romantic ideals (e.g. the role of women; consequences of individualism when selfishness is prevalent; etc.)?
