  • First Grade Readers Are Leaders

    Thank you so much for helping to expand the classroom library. The more choices the students have, the more chances they have to fall in love with a good book. The students were so excited to see the new books.

    We have already started to read them. The students loved how silly the Pigeon is in the Mo Williems books. Another favorite character is Fly Guy. Fly Guy is helping the students learn about different jobs in the community. 1st grade students love to learn about animals and they were so happy to have more animals to read about.

    Finding a love for reading is so important for all students. Many students rely on the classroom library as their only access to books. Your donation has helped to build their classroom library and selection of books.”

This project will help update our classroom library with lots of new books! My diverse classroom wants to see characters in books that are like them. They also want new stories to help motivate and grow their love of reading. In my graduate classes, I learned about many new books that promote critical literacy. Most of the books on my list came from my research from graduate school. My students want to know about their world and the people living in it. These books will open up many different cultures and tell stories of people living all over the world.
