Subscribing to Storyworks digital and print resources will give my class access to texts they need to read deeply and widely! Diving into a monthly magazine will help my students across a wide range of skills to connect personally with a text and have a literacy-related discussion piece to bring home. Helping my students dive into great texts will give them the tools they need to create more successful futures for themselves. For this reason, I have also selected a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts to add to my class library. Storyworks resources and other carefully-curated texts will serve to enrich my classroom library so that my students can become more autonomous readers. While my students have made a great deal of growth in reading, we are making up missed ground from abnormally high rates of absenteeism due to the pandemic. My students will benefit from access to more up-to-date literature than I am currently able to offer them. My students are always asking for book recommendations and I can feel confident recommending any of these titles to both my reluctant and confident readers. I intend on using these texts in my small groups and read alouds as well. We are also excited to have a magnetic rack to store an Oral Language reward system. Our class is working to earn marbles for every time they accurately use a targetted academic vocabulary term. I can hang flashcards of our words and phrases on the hooks, too! This goal is to help all my students, especially my English Language Learners, gain greater access to the text.
