  • Play Hard, Dream Big: Help Equip Tomorrow’s Leaders!

    Funded Dec 6, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity. The new resources have been instrumental in encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship among our 4th-grade students. One exciting project was forming our track and field team. Our students have trained and participated in races. A memorable moment was our first race on Valentine's Day, where students competed and cheered each other on, showing incredible sportsmanship. The equipment has allowed them to practice a variety of sports, not just track and field. Additionally, my 1st graders are using the softballs to learn how to catch, which is improving their hand-eye coordination and teamwork skills in a fun, hands-on way.

When the packages arrived, my students were thrilled. I had them unpack the boxes, and their faces lit up with excitement as they saw the new equipment. Their smiles reflected their deep appreciation. It was a moment I will always treasure.

Next, my students are preparing for upcoming races at the end of March. Until then, we will continue practicing skills like sprinting, relays, and other track events. Since our first race, we've added two more teams, allowing even more students to participate. These upcoming events will reinforce important life skills like discipline, dedication, and teamwork.”

    With gratitude,

  • Manipulatives for Hands-on Foundational Skills

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

I am beyond grateful for your kindness and generosity in funding my project. It has helped me to make many different manipulatives for my students to pick up and use at home during this time of remote learning. Student and parents were both happy to receive the different manipulatives.

As a teacher, I know the importance of foundational skills. However, as an intervention teacher I have seen how many students lack a strong foundational skills. I have found that using manupulatives such as letter tiles and colored tiles help support simple skills such as blending, letter recognition, and letter sound correspondence to name a few. In the intervention room, these supplies are available for a brick and mortar setting. Due to the current COVID-19 school closure, manipulatives such as letter tiles and color tiles are not available for student use.

Because of your generosity, I was able to make small letter tiles for students to take home. I printed small alphabet tiles on cardstock. Using the laminator and pouches, I laminated class sets of lower case and upper case letters. I cut the small tiles, and placed each alphabet set in small pouches. Parents were contacted to pick up the manipulatives. During lessons, it is exciting to see each student pull out their little bag of letter tiles, and follow along with the lesson. Parents have been grateful to not have to go out to buy or try to create the alphabet cards.

It is amazing to see how something so small can make a big difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ugalde

These materials will help students further develop their fine motor skills while supporting their foundational skill acquisition. Being able to manipulate objects makes learning more fun and interesting. They help to meet students' various learning needs while keeping the students engaged. Outside of school, our students are not always provided with opportunites that foster their foundational and fine motor skills. As a teacher who has worked with students from kinder through sixth grade, I see the impact the lack of foundational and fine motor skills has on students. The beads will help support skills such as making works, counting, sorting, and patterns to name a few. Having to handle the beads helps develop the muscles in their hands. Which in turn will help them properly hold a pencil and be able to write letters legibly. The Playdough will support students in making letters in upper case and lower case, and eventually words. Students can do various blending activities using the Playdough as a manipulative. Letters and words are created in a low stress environment. The Cricut is not only for making the classroom look attractive, but to support students' learning. I will use the Cricut to letters using different textured paper. Having a tactile manipulative also supports letter formation. The best part of it all is that students can eventually take home something they created while learning.
