Printmaking With Gel Plates > Jell-O Plates
Funded Jan 12, 2024Thank you for the donation of Speedball Gel plates! One of the reasons I requested these plates was to increase efficiency and reduce waste. Because of your generosity, those goals were met. I'm excited to use the durable and reusable plates for years!
So far, students have been able to create nature-inspired prints and autumn-inspired prints. Lessons have focused on exploring how color interacts when layering prints, playing with shape and texture, and focusing on process over product. When given the opportunity to try printmaking with the plates, all the students squealed with delight and wowed at their results. Printmaking Day is now full of the same level of joy as Clay Day.
Thank you for inspiring others through your donation.”

Funded May 8, 2022Thank you for funding and supplying our art room with tempera paint sticks! Artists in Milton have enjoyed using the paint sticks from the first day I introduced the additional selection of materials. Previously, artists have had access to rainbow, fluorescent, and metallic colors. Their options have expanded to include earth tones and a variety of line thicknesses.
Artists and families used the paint sticks during a family "Give & Take" themed event. Families brought a food donation to "give" and were able to "take" something home for themselves. The paint sticks were the perfect pairing for an activity where they needed good coverage, fast dry time, and strong visual impact. I have included some pictures in an e-mail to donors for reference.
Artists have experimented with the paint sticks in creating a paper plate base for their weaving. Artists worked more efficiently than if we were to use traditional tempera paint. They both blended colors to create new colors and layered colors without the threat of the colors mixing due to the quick dry time. At the end of class, we collected the plates by stacking them without fear of them sticking together and without the need for drying racks. I have included some pictures in an e-mail to donors for reference.
Artists continue to be able to use the paint sticks during free art choice time. Paint sticks are a favorite option as artists create paintings without leaving them in the art room to dry.
The paint sticks have been an impactful addition to the art room. Overall, the excitement around using the tempera paint sticks never dulls. I hope to keep a variety of tempera paint sticks stocked for years to come. Thank you!”

Funded Feb 11, 2021Thank you for funding and supplying our art room with tempera paint sticks! Artists in Milton have enjoyed using the paint sticks from the first day I introduced the new material. They were excited about the bright colors and how the paint sticks looked like glue sticks. Once they began using them, artists loved the paint sticks even more!
Artists have been wowed by how quickly the paint dries and how they can mix new colors with minimal mess. If I were to guess, I think their favorite part about using paint sticks would be that they can create a masterpiece and walk out with it the same day, skipping the drying rack. Artists have used the tempera paint sticks in numerous ways since the beginning of the year: to celebrate International Dot Day, to explore freely during "Free Art Choice Time," to create banners for our Veterans Day program, to design ideas for a community fundraiser, and more!
New projects in 2022 include using the paint sticks for a printmaking lesson and an animal portrait project. The paint sticks will continue to be available during "Free Art Choice Time" since it seems to be a favorite choice. The paint sticks have been an impactful addition to the art room. I don't know how we went so long without them, and I hope to keep them stocked for years to come. Thank you!”
