Our school has been blessed to have one to one iPads which have research-based learning apps that guide students on their own individualized learning paths in both Reading and Math. In order to concentrate on their academics while using these apps, students need less noise to distract them. Even while using their iPads in small groups, there are still lots of other sounds around them to distract them. Having headphones that are noise-reducing will help them stay focused on their learning paths. The headphones we would like are described as noise reducing and just right for young children, such as I have with my Kindergartners. Our school's mascot is a tiger, so not only will the headphones help reduce excess noise, but they will also show a bit of school spirit by wearing their school mascot!
Knowing their assessment scores and being able to set their own goals gives the students, even as young as Kindergarten, ownership in their academic success. This is why our students have individual folders that have their assessment data and many different goals that they review often throughout the year to update and revise. Students have conferences with me about what goals they would like to set for themselves to improve their assessment scores, their goals to improve how and what they want to learn, and goals to improve or maintain good citizenship in the school and their community. Since these folders must last all year, we need durable folders that can handle being reviewed often.
