Sometimes things that are out of a student's control, like their home environment and health, impact their ability to fully attend and engage which limits their learning and the learning of others. Not all students learn the same way. Some require a little extra support to be able to attend, stay on task, and focus. Inattention negatively impacts student’s academic performance, that poor performance impacts their self-image which then continues the cycle by impacting the student socially and academically. With the help of the time-timer watch, student's can receive customized alerts to remind them to focus, check their work, or take a break. Because the watch has vibration features, the reminder does not impact the learning of other students. Student's will be able to build independence and self-monitor without the embarrassment of verbal reminders from adults or bulky visual reminders on their desk. Student's who have been identified as having the highest need will be able to check-out their watch daily and return it at the end of the day so that it does not get lost. Also, the watches have the ability to be recharged. The daily check-in and check-out will also allow for reflection on how their day went, what worked well, and areas to improve. The hope is that with less interruption to the learning environment, students wearing the watch will be able to become more focused and on-task so that they are more available for learning to build academic success and self-esteem. It would also help to reduce the number of distractions and interruptions in the whole classroom.
