Baking Club
Funded Oct 29, 2024Thank you so much for funding this project. My students are the kindest, most passionate kids I know. There aren’t enough words to express how much this means to them. When I told them that we got electric mixers, they were so happy that they cried. It’s so important for inner city students to have community at school, and your donation will help them have that. Thank you.”

This classroom project was brought to life by .Remote Reading Remedy!
Funded Sep 14, 2020This project has helped my students tremendously during remote learning. So many of them struggled to get aclimated to the remote environment, and having a physical book in front of them made all the difference. One of the skills my students learned during this unit was the importance of repetition and style. Jason Reynolds has a very particular style of writing, and it was easy for the kids to latch on to it, notice it, name it, and replicate it in their own writing.
During this unit, my students often took turns reading excerpts of the book aloud. Other times, they read silently. A lot fo students were so engaged with the text that they read ahead. Some even claimed to read the whole text in one day!
One of my students - Chris P. - says that this is his favorite book. He asked to keep it for himself so that he could read it to his brother. Another student of mine - Jahiris - was so excited about a new book being in her mailbox that she read the whole thing in a just a few days and wrote a story about her own life inspired by Long Way Down. Thank you so much for your generous donations. I know my students appreciate it.”
