  • TK Self Expression Music and Art Materials

    Funded Aug 19, 2024

What an amazing thing to find the project has been funded! This group of TK students need to move and create and now we can. We started school last week and I have found I have students who love to sing and respond well to impromptu songs. Now we can add music. I’m thrilled! Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baugh

  • Mama, Read Me a Story.

    Funded Dec 25, 2019

I was over the moon to find that our entire project was funded. The books were labeled and ready to use quickly. Each night the children take home a book to read with their families. Each morning the students check their book back in enabling them to take a new one home that afternoon. The children man the check-in and check-out system and have been very good about returning the books each day.

Some of the books have become class favorites. Some are loved for their clever story lines and some are loved because of their illustrations. I have heard from many of the families that they loved a particular book so much that they went out and bought it, not wanting to wait until it cycled back to them in the book rotation.

The students talk to each other about the stories, recommend titles to others, and have increased the time spent with families with a singular focus.

Thank you so much for the gift of the books and the gift the children have of their parents attention and conversation each night.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baugh

I plan on using these books in a rotation system so that all children get to take the books home, enjoy them, and return them for another. Many of my students lack a home library or the interest of a parent to visit the city library for reading materials to view at home. Our school libraries no longer allow students to bring books home in the lower grades. I hope that the time spent reading with a family member will increase the connection between student and parent, boost a love of reading, and open conversations about many of the social emotional concepts brought out by these authors.
