In our classroom, in addition to having a variety of reading abilities and languages, we also have a huge amount of discrepancies when it comes to behavior and learning styles. Having access to technology and online reading and math programs is not only more engaging to this age group, but more accessible to their learning abilities. For example, while one student might be reading on a level Q, another might be reading on a level D, but expected to complete the same work in the classroom. By having Chromebooks, I can differentiate materials by having students access Google Documents, giving them material that is more appropriate to their abilities, and use intervention programs that I cannot give them more than once a day because of my limited resources. Chromebooks are also a fantastic way to show kids that they can be independent and work on things without the teacher with them. Many times, students will find an intervention program they enjoy and ask to use that instead of free time. This is why the use of technology in the classroom is so beneficial to our students.
