Being departmentalized this school year I want to create a Math library for my students to have a blast into math with reading. We are requesting a new Math Library to expand their mathematical thinking! The materials in the project will help my students build a love of math through reading. Math can be challenging, so when the usual explanations and strategies don't work, what's a teacher to do? Create a math library so they can have access to math books! I will use the math libraries to enhance reading and math levels of my students. I will offer students reading time during math centers to provide an experiential learning to my students. A funny and interesting story pulls the kids in, and then the different approach (vs. traditional math direct instruction) means even the frustrated kids are more receptive to learning math. Children who claim to not like math will now find an engaging, 'friendly' entry into the subject via the math books in our library.
