  • Drawing Kits for Blended Learning

    Funded Oct 7, 2020

Thanks to the drawing kits students have spent the last three months working very hard on creating their own comics. Each student used the drawing materials you provided to develop original characters, write their own stories, illustrate their comics, finalize it with ink pens, and add color- they have come out beautifully!

When students first received the kits and were told they could take them home, they were so happy. They expressed that they felt like they were receiving a gift and couldn't believe they could take it home. In school, students were especially excited when it came time to ink their final drawings with 'professional ink pens', which made them feel like serious artists and gave their work an encouraging finished look.

Currently, students are finishing up their final comics. We are planning to print them and assemble a large comic book full of their stories for the school. We are also planning to celebrate their work through a virtual comic book festival, where they can share their work with the larger school community, give each other feedback and even dress as their main characters!

The drawing kits definitely helped make a challenging year easier and more enjoyable for my students.

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martinson

  • Bigger Cart, Better Art!

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

Thank you so much for your contribution to our budding art program! This new larger cart will help me reach more students and give them an even better and bigger art experience. Not only will I benefit in so many ways (i.e. organizationally and logistically), the students will certainly benefit the most as a larger cart will allow them to use more materials and access them independently during class time. Thank you so much for your generous contribution, it really will make a big difference for me and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martinson

Teaching art on a cart is not easy. Art Class requires (a lot) of materials, space, water, clean up etc. and while my school does not have the luxury of a designated art room, I am grateful that I get to provide an art education to students by bringing it to them. A larger cart would not only allow me to bring more materials into the classroom for students to explore and use, giving them more opportunities to express themselves, it would also provide more space to organize and label materials so that students can access them independently. Last, a larger cart would help with storing and transporting student's work safely after each class. With your support, I can really PUSH past my current limitations and ensure a quality art experience for all my students.
