When you teach children about diversity, you are encouraging them to see the world from unique perspectives. Teaching diversity shows students how to be open-minded and helps to develop a sense of empathy towards others in and outside of the classroom. With early childhood, one of the best ways to teach diversity is through interactive activities, music, and through play. With the celebrating diversity bundle, my students will be able to explore the importance of diversity through a variety of hands-on learning activities. In addition to the diversity bundle, the magnetic families and the community block people give the chance for students to explore diversity through play. Play is arguably the most important learning tool in early childhood settings. Through play students are able to share their cultures and family dynamics with one another; the blocks and magnets help to facilitate their play and diversity conversations. Within every culture, music has always been the common denominator that brings people together. Offering my students the chance to explore instruments from around the world will further their diversity investigation and allow them the chance to be creative through music. When children have the chance to play an instrument, exploring the sounds and rhythms that it can make, they building foundational skills such as memory. Music is an important part of everyday life for all cultures and should be encouraged in the classroom. All the materials will encourage children to explore diversity freely with one another, giving them the chance to share with one another their own backgrounds. We will use the materials as a way to facilitate their learning and play to encourage them to learn more about diversity and one another. With these tools, our students will be able to celebrate diversity in the classroom, our school, and our community.
