Building with Legos is a key component in learning to visualize objects. Many children use Lego bricks to build predetermined structures or to create objects they dream up. However, at some point, they stop. I want to encourage my middle school students to continue to use Lego bricks and their creativity to build. Using Lego bricks to build models can be a great part of the design process. I will use the Lego plates and bricks to teach my students to model in two directions, vertically and horizontally. I will use some of the plates to build a Lego wall on which students can design and build street maps. They will use the remaining plates to design and build structures from the ground up. The bricks will be added to our current supply of bricks so that the students have enough to satisfy the needs of their imaginations!
