Focus on the Calm
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you for continued support of my classroom. My students were beyond excited to see all of the calm strips and supplies for my classroom. So many of my students were intrigued by the calm strips and how they could be used.
One of my students when he first saw the calm strips was so excited he immediately asked if this was something he could take with him every he went. It is so important for my students to have ways to help keep focused during lessons.
Thank you again for this support. I look forward to continuing to use these resources with many more students in the future.”

Funded Nov 5, 2022Thank you for your support of my classroom and my students. My classroom serves as a place to be safe for many students. To open up about their day and what is happening both in and out of school. These different style of seating allows my students to be comfortable in this safety.
When my students first saw all of these different options to sit there was a lot of excitement to try something new. Bouncy chair seats and floor seats are some of the best ways for students to change their frame of mind and focus on the work we are doing.
With these new seating options I am see more students focused on the work and doing their best in everything we are doing.”

Funded Jan 11, 2022It is so amazing to have such a wonderful collection of books in my room. As a counselor, literature is a magical way to connect with students and explore their feelings and thoughts on a range of topics. With this literature at my fingertips I have been able to complete several small groups during lunch, building a relationship with these students outside of classroom and working with them on particular topics like forming relationships, honesty and integrity.
Thank you for the support! After the success of the last few months of using this literature I am excited to continue these groups in the following years.”

Funded Sep 1, 2021Thank you so much for your support. With the purchase of these tablets I have been to create small groups where students work together to practice coping skills. In individual sessions my students are able to use the tablets to work through strong emotions and not allow the escalating emotion to keep them from learning.
One of my students is particularly struggling after the pandemic and finds it difficult to manage the classroom with her peers. In our weekly sessions she has been to identify an app from the tablet that helps her calm down and remain focused in the classroom. She is also able to use the app on her own device outside of my room.”

Funded Feb 24, 2020Technology puts the power of the world in the hands of our students. Using technology in my guidance curriculum gives me the power of using different resources in my work with all my students.
Using different websites, calm down applications, music or relaxation sites I can work with students to overcome their triggers, manage their emotions and begin to learn how to avoid their triggers. Having the technology I have been able to work with students like Makenzie that is struggling to overcoming her traumatic past. Using different apps and websites, I am giving her the resources she needs to help calm down in situations where I may not be around.
Teaching my students the skills they need to overcome emotions and handle different situations that they will face in their lives is a primary goal of service.”

Growing through Literature
Funded Apr 1, 2020Using literature in my guidance curriculum is one of the most loved activities by my students. Through books, I can show my kids the world around them, teaching them how to interact and overcome the traumas or struggles of their lives.
By reading books like The Hundred Dresses, I am to work with my students like Jacob or Emery, who struggle to fit in with their classmates, to learn how to accept and grow from their differences. At the same time, I can work with all of my students on accepting differences, valuing uniqueness and how to help others grow and adapt.
With your generous donation, I have expanded my literature collection and I am able to continue making connections for my students to the world around. Reading about different situations, seeing how different situations can play out, and developing resiliency are all critical skills that my students are able to learn and see through the magic of books.”
