By creating flexible seating to simulate the dynamic work environment, students will learn while being comfortable and safe in the classroom. Students will learn therapeutic strategies to take on the perspective of others, establish and maintain healthy relationships, and make positive and appropriate choices involving their social interactions and personal behavior in the real world. My hopes will be for students to find the independence necessary to achieve success and make a social impact in the workplace and beyond. My proposed seating plan aims to simulate a dynamic workplace while teaching students to develop social-emotional skills necessary for future employment. Physical activity has been closely linked to improving the depression and anxiety symptoms which prevent our students from thriving in the general education environment. In addition, according to the Center for Disease Control, data from 2015-2016 shows that nearly 1 in 5 school-age children and young people (6 to 19 years) in the United States have obesity. Students will design model work environments for the future in order to create healthier workplaces.
