Working Together for a Carpet
Funded Nov 20, 2019We cannot thank you enough for our beautiful carpet! When it arrived, the students were jumping up and down cheering! They were so excited to have a comfortable space to work and to learn.
We love to use the carpet for math! Students sit in a circle or sit with partners to learn the new concept and to try it out on their dry erase tool kits. Also, they have room to use math manipulatives like fraction strips to solve the problems. Students show me that they understand the concept on their tool kits and then they try the "black diamond", which like skiing, is the challenge. They LOVE the black diamond because they enjoy that feeling of success when understanding something challenging.
We also use the carpet while we have Book Club discussions. Students meet twice a week to discuss their books, learn from each other, and push each other to be better, deeper readers. They use discussion mats with talking pieces that go along with their reading level and to make sure they discuss all aspects of the story. During writing, students are able to write wherever they wish in the room. Many choose to write on the carpet and use the lap desks that we have. This freedom inspires creative ideas!
Thank you so so much!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Quinn
