As of today, my students use pan balances to measure mass for various objects. These pan balances have been in the school for many, many years and are hard to calibrate which makes accurate measurement difficult. We use metric measurement to create an image of what a kg, mL and g looks like and using a digital scale will give a more accurate picture of this. Math and science are subjects that are closely related and I try to include math skills when we are completing labs in class. Technology is a big part of the school climate however my equipment is not meeting this need. My students are preparing to be future scientist and need to use the tools that real scientist use that includes a digital scale and other tools.
