As a teacher, I spend hundreds of dollars in my classroom every year. This year, I made a massive change to my middle school classroom and spent thousands of dollars. I couldn’t wait and didn’t wait for the opportunity to write a grant for the furniture before the first day of school. In August, I created an innovative classroom for my students. In my new classroom, students have the opportunity to stand at the standing tables, sit on the floor, or sit on exercise balls. I also have chairs that spin and chairs with cushions. The tables are whiteboard tables., which has increased engagement and learning. My new classroom is supportive and comforting and creative and flexible. Since day one, my students have loved my classroom. Learning is at the forefront, and they are learning at a level of comfort that suits each of their learning styles. One of the most exciting parts of my classroom is how innovation has moved from my classroom and into the homes of my students. Countless students have asked their parents to include innovative leaning space in their homes so that they have a study space similar to the environment of my classroom.
