As a teacher in an "urban" school district, sometimes the little things get overshadowed by circumstances that are perceived to be of more pertinence. This leaves a gap in resources afforded to our scholars. With that being said, that is my motivation behind this project! I am specifically requesting Nike soccer balls and Duracell AAA batteries as a way to both figuratively and literally level the playing field. These two items may not seem like much, but they are sorely needed. As both a boys and girls soccer coach, our balls are constantly subject to a tremendous amount of wear and tear. A few parents have provided a ball, but the majority have not based on financial difficulty or just not understanding the intricacies of the game. The balls we have aren't in the best of shape. We need newer soccer balls so that we can do more advanced drills, improve skills, and in turn, better compete with the higher tier teams in our state. The Duracell AAA batteries come into play for our math teachers and myself. We have a decent amount of calculators, but their battery life is waning. Math is a subject most scholars shy away from, but it is necessary for proficient matriculation. Not only do we have state tests, but as an ACT Prep instructor, I'm also preparing my scholars to do well on that test. Let's just say the calculators are pretty necessary, but batteries are kind of expensive!
