  • Creating Calm: A Safe Space for Social Emotional Growth

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution to my DonorsChoose project. This project focuses on creating a safe and nurturing space to support our students' social-emotional growth.

Your support has brought this vision to life, providing our students with the tools and environment they need to feel understood, valued, and empowered. These resources will help foster self-awareness, emotional resilience, and stronger peer connections—essential skills for their well-being and success.

Because of your generosity, you have made a meaningful difference in the lives of every student who walks through our doors. Thank you for believing in this mission and for your role in shaping a brighter future for these young individuals.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Green

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Children need to move! Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. As one teacher said, “There is no better way to show your support for a student-centered classroom, than creating a classroom from a child’s point of view.” In her opinion, comfortable students are engaged students. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive.
