  • Calculators Access for All

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom project, "Calculator Access for All." These calculators are being used by students in my calculus class who cannot afford to buy their own calculators. I work in an intercity school that is often considering under performing and under serviced. Providing students access to advanced calculators, puts them on a level playing field with other school districts with ample access to technology. Again, I thank you so much for your contribution to my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McQuaid

This classroom project was brought to life by A family that cares about Boston and 3 other donors.
  • Basic School Supplies

    Funded Oct 28, 2021

My students are part of one of the largest urban school districts in MA. My project will help provide underprivileged students with school supplies that they otherwise would not be able to afford.

Most of my students don't come to school with basic school supplies.

It becomes quite expensive for me to provide my students with everything they need.

I often use whiteboards in my classroom so students can display their work. Whiteboard markers are expensive but it is important for all of my students to have one so that they can participate in class on a regular basis. With your donation, my students have been able to do just that!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McQuaid

  • Access to Teachers Pay Teachers

    Funded Aug 18, 2021

I teach three completely different classes, geometry, precalculus, and calculus. Because of this, I spend so much time planning for each class. I often turn to Teachers Pay Teachers when I am short on time or creative inspiration. Many teachers sell their products on Teachers Pay Teachers to share their resources, for a slight cost. This can be expensive and comes out of my own pocket. This project allowed me to not only buy lesson plans and activities for my students, but it helped support my fellow teachers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McQuaid

This classroom project was brought to life by Emerson Collective and one other donor.
  • School Supplies for Students

    Funded Aug 16, 2021

My students make me want to teach for a lifetime in this urban environment. They are part of one of the largest urban school districts in MA. There are 52 languages spoken in our school community. We struggle with many of the same issues all urban schools struggle with: full classrooms, not enough supplies, the many faces of poverty, but that is not what defines my students! My students are bright, young individuals who deserve access to a thriving educational environment that moves them beyond the traditional classroom walls.

Most of my students don't come to school with basic school supplies.

It becomes quite expensive for me to provide my students with everything they need.

With your help, my students were able to have basic school supplies.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McQuaid

  • Modeling Mathematics With Graphing Calculators

    Funded Jan 3, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation to this project. This gift will benefit intercity students with the opportunity to integrate technology into the mathematics curriculum. Giving these students the same access other school districts have, with using these graphing calculators will greatly benefit them while taking the SATs and preparing for college. We really appreciate your considerate contribution to our class.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McQuaid

Graphing calculators help prepare students for the SAT and ACT test. Within my urban classroom not all students have the financial ability to purchase a calculator and will only be able to view another student use the device. The batteries purchased with this project will supply a calculator for every student in class. ALL students will have immediate access to technology to further their mathematical development for higher education. Graphing calculators are recommended by the National Standards in Mathematics in Algebra 2 and has a proven positive effect on student performance. The lower level students can leap hurdles using the calculator to aid in fraction computation to reach the higher level concepts. All students can make connections among different representations of mathematical models. Users can quickly maneuver among tabular, graphical, and algebraic forms. Finally graphing calculators permit the creation of several types of best-fitting regression models allowing the capability of data analysis to become integrated within the traditional curriculum.
