It's Game Time! Relationship Building In Homeroom
Funded Dec 13, 2021With your contributions I was able to bring in resources that have helped students build connections with others in the classroom. When first unboxing them for the classroom the students did not hesitate to arrange themselves for an overly competitive game of jenga or connect 4. It brought out the best with them. For example, one day a student was starting an uno game and they went around to some of the more "independent" students and asked them to join. The students became inclusive of everyone around them. Moving forward these materials will continue to be used by all classes including the play-doh, which has become a favorite among students to reduce anxiety in class.
This project positively changed the dynamics in class and it will continue to act as a catalyst for relationship building in the years to come!”

Collaboration Central
Funded Jul 12, 2021Thank you for making this possible!
Prior to this year students only really experienced remote learning at the high school level without much chance to connect and be creative within their roles as students. These resources contributed to in class projects by allowing students the choice to be creative and collaborate among peers.
Initially, at the start of the school year students were hesitant to interact in comparison to previous years. When these were provided they began to interacting and it continued to flourish throughout the year. Between September and now they have grown so much which just this little step.
The next steps for this project is to continue using these resources to help future students connect and share their creativity.”

Funded Dec 31, 2019While creating this project I wanted to improve the resources I have in my classroom for my students that may not have them. Prior to this project the supplies I had were starting to degrade from some wear and tear. Supplying these resources tend to add up in cost so when the project got funded, I was full of excitement. These supplies have made a big difference with the way that I've conducted labs and with the quality of work produced by students.
Initially the students were very curious to the supplies delivered. They also initially thought I went on a big amazon spree. When I explained the project and how it was manifested through donations the students were caught off guard, they never expected people to give them supplies. My last class also gave a large round of applause for teenager sized scissors. Since then they've used the supplies on a weekly basis for notes, vocabulary practice and even in lab stations. It has been a great reassurance to know I have the resources to create engaging and differentiated lessons for my students.
My next steps for my classroom are to continue to improve the resources for my students in the classroom such as the word wall and engagement activities.”

New Normal Classroom
Funded Jul 24, 2020Thank you for giving to this project. Since this project has been funded school has started and what a wild ride it has been! Materials from this project have been used to provide students with the tools to manage remote learning. Binders, pencil case, masks, wipes are all essential items that students need and use during this time.
For previous projects I always had students open the boxes, some of them would tear through them like it was Christmas Day. Others would question my impulse control with amazon, either way it was always the best day. This was the first time I opened them alone, I couldn't help feeling very grateful for your support. Since opening them remote learning "kits" have been made and are ready for distribution for any in person students this semester. Thank you for providing tools will keep them healthy and learning through the school year!”

Funded Apr 18, 2020Thank you for supporting my classroom. I cannot wait to get back to teaching in person so these materials can be used. When it is possible these materials will be used to build and remodel our current word wall. In previous years it has been too small to hold all our vocabulary words we accumulate over time. Additionally, there are magnetic organizers where I can write weekly homework assignments and have them for students to stay organized.
Even though my students did not help me unpack this project I know they would have felt grateful. Next steps, get into the classroom after it is safe to do so. Set up the classroom to have a better word wall, add fresh border and banners full of color so students feel welcome as soon as they step foot into my room.”

Surviving the Season
Funded Dec 15, 2019From the day this project was created, all I wanted to help my classroom, and those around me, safer. This year has been incredibly rough regarding the cold and flu. Students and teachers alike have been absent with flu-like symptoms on scale larger than anything I've seen since becoming a teacher. And now with the COVID-19 virus being found in Massachusetts, these supplies are more important than ever and have to the potential to make a real difference.
When I first told my students about the project, they were skeptical about whether it would make a difference or if anyone would actually be willing to donate. When they came into class the morning the items were delivered, they had some interesting looks. Some were confused, but others looked like they just opened a new bicycle on Christmas. The items from this project provide some peace of mind to the students and faculty, knowing that there are resources to help prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses.
This ties into my plan for my next steps, which is to reinforce the practice of good hygiene and making sure that the students are aware of the dangers of harmful viruses and bacteria, and how to help prevent the spread of them. While this may seem minor to some, free access to these supplies is a huge help to students who may not have easy access to these items at home for reasons beyond their control. Everyone deserves to feel and be safe in the classroom, and these items help make that a reality. Thank you for all your support in helping my classroom.”
