The students were able to read a novel during the study of the Revolutionary Era, which helped them to better understand the information. I believe that reading a novel during the Civil War Era will help them understand both sides as well. With novels, students are able to look at different perspectives and analyze the information through the lens of each of the characters. There is usually additional information in the novel that may not be mentioned in the text. I think the students will see the Civil War in a different light if they are able to read a novel along with textbook information.
