Technology is such an important component of every classroom nowadays. In order for students to be successful in the future, they need to be given plenty of opportunities to interact with it. I want my students to feel confident in their technology-based skills, so they can conquer any challenge that gets thrown their way. The only way to make that happen is to provide consistent access. Having a classroom MacBook Air would do just that.
Dream Big, Work Hard! Our school motto encompasses the learning environment we have in our classroom. Because I am a Dual Language teacher, I find that my English Language Learners struggle with the intricacies of English, while my native English speakers find the Spanish language challenging. Vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and listening/speaking skills influence a student's ability to progress. Their dreams are big and they work so very hard, yet they still face difficulties.
With a MacBook Air, I can see no limit to their potential. I envision using the laptop to incorporate visuals, videos, and interactive games in my lessons in order to facilitate their language learning. My visual learners would greatly benefit, as well as all students who struggle with taking the typical paper/pencil format assessment. By creating presentations such as PowerPoint or Google Slides, students would get the opportunity to express their knowledge in a different format. Additionally, given the vast amount of apps that can be used to encourage oral and written communication, my students would have access to constant practice. I would also love to have students use the laptop to research and apply previously learned skills to real-world problems. This kind of hands-on experiential learning would translate into meaningful learning, not just memorization of information.
Critical thinkers, problem solvers...help me inspire my children to dream big and work hard!
