I have 5 iPads to share with a class 28 students and one of these is very old. In the beginning band, there are concepts that vary by instrument groups, and the iPads are a great tool for supplementing and practicing fundamentals. Having 2 more iPads would be very helpful in helping students to be productive during class, even if they show up without their instrument. One of the ways I use them is by giving them to a specific instrument group to learn content exclusive to that instrument. For example, I can give the flute section iPads and have them learn things about their instruments that are specific to only them. Students can practice note recognition skills, note fingering, pitch identification, ear training. iPads keep students engaged. Another way I have used them is to use a select group of apps for the students to practice music fundamentals. When a student forgets their instrument, they can stay engaged using these learning apps on the iPads.
