This project will allow students to learn about a new art form by creating pots out of clay. Students will channel their creativity in a a way they have never done before. Expanding students creativity is necessary for them to succeed in their life. They need the ability to think in different ways and try new things. Giving them the opportunity to create pots and learn about these cultures will meet those needs. Connecting social studies with art is powerful and educational for students. Understanding cultures is important for students to learn to increase their knowledge of the world we live in today. I can't think of a better way to teach about culture than to give the students a hands on opportunity. Students will learn and develop and understanding of culture as we discuss where this art form of pottery began and how this art form is used today. These concepts fall under the 2nd grade curriculum in art for visual arts as well as standard 4 in the Utah social studies curriculum. I hope to provide this opportunity to my future classes and students. My receiving the materials like wires, brushed, stamps and brushes now I can sustain the project this year as well as help students in the future with the materials not used from this year. I hope to give my students in the future the chance to learn about social studies and art in a new and enhancing way.
