Our 9th grade ELA class is going to explore issues of race, gender, and social justice as we read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. We want to foster a love for reading in our students, as well as instill a sense of political awareness. The Hate U Give is a timely, relevant novel that deals with identity, community, and police brutality. We hope reading this novel will be a launching point for our students as they become analytical actors and thinkers in our world. Please help inspire reading in our students so that the next generation is equipped with the literacy skills that help them succeed and develop the empathy needed to show compassion towards others.
